But why is this still important? As I mentioned before, another fascinating thing about the comments in the Rosetta code is that they did not have to compile so that the programmers could basically enhance the language - in this case Algol - in any way they saw fit. So by looking for such enhancements we can gain insight of their desires and expectations of the future! Of course we know how the future turned out to be, but my point is that if our former selves successfully predicted the past future in their comments; our present future can be also better predicted using the same method.
